As widespread tornadoes and flooding impact communities in the Midwest, the American Red Cross is responding to help people from Texas to New York who were impacted or displaced by the severe weather. As part of its relief efforts, the Red Cross is assisting in the operation of 31 community shelters across the affected region. The shelters housed up to 485 people in Ohio, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Arkansas in a single night.
Red Cross has deployed more than 500 trained disaster workers in eight states, who are providing food, relief supplies, health services, and emotional and logistical support as people begin the recovery process. The Red Cross continuously monitors severe weather events and will organize future response efforts as necessary. People in need of shelter after a natural disaster can call 1-800-733-2767 or use the free Red Cross Emergency App to find a location.
