The Brent Shapiro Foundation was born of a personal tragedy. When renowned Los Angeles attorney Robert Shapiro lost his son Brent to drug addiction, Shapiro and his family decided to fight back with a positive message. Today, the foundation works to prevent drug and alcohol abuse among young people and to offer constructive alternatives in often-underserved neighborhoods.
Among its recent events, the foundation’s Brent’s Club group got acquainted with football players from the University of California, Los Angeles. More than 100 youth members of Brent’s Club and the Varsity Boys & Girls Club had the opportunity to meet the team, head coach Jim Mora, and quarterback Josh Rosen.
Formerly a coach with the Atlanta Falcons and the Seattle Seahawks, Mora led his team in its most recent season to a place among the top 25 programs in the nation in terms of multiple defensive and offensive categories. Rosen’s skills are such that media buzz in mid-2017 listed him as likely to be one of the first three quarterbacks picked in next year's NFL draft.
