Established in 1992, the national ASAS organization has worked to offer a safe and healthy place for students to participate in learning and sports activities in their after-school hours. Today, more than 300 schools offer ASAS programming to more than 70,000 students.
The ASAS vision for the future is that each child will have the opportunity to successfully complete high school and go on to a fulfilling college and career experience that will allow him or her to give back to the entire community.
The Los Angeles chapter of ASAS was founded by former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2002. The 48 total ASAS sites in the Los Angeles County area serve elementary, middle, and high school students, most of whom are eligible to participate in federal free or reduced lunch programs.
Like other ASAS chapters throughout the country, those in Los Angeles offer homework help, snacks, health and physical fitness activities, and special field trips designed to spark students’ interests in the world around them.
